About village of MAYO
Gold was found on the bars of the Stewart
River in the late 1800's an, in 1903, the village of Mayo was established
to provide services to the miners. A drive along the Silver Trail affords
views of this history. The village is still primarily a service center
for govt and miners and also serves as a jumping off point for hunting,
guiding, hiking and canoe trips into the wilderness.
